Ulladulla is a modern spelling of an Aboriginal Australian word, the meaning of which is unidentified. Some early records stated that the word means “safe harbour”, but local native old people objected that it is the meaning of the word and pointed out that a harbour for ships is a modern idea. Another recorded possible meaning was “Holy Dollar”; alternative spellings are Woolladoorh and Ngulla-dulla. In 1828, Rev Thomas Kendall arrived on the land and became the first European settler. Kendall established Australian Red Cedar that extended at Yackungarrah and Narrawallee Creek in Yatte Yattah, exactly 4 kilometres north of Milton.
