Camden is a suburb of Sydney, New South Wales, Australia that is rich in history. The town is over 10 square kilometres wide and about 40 miles southwest of Sydney’s central business district. The 2016 census showed that it has almost 2000 residents, 53% females and 47% males, and the average age of residents is 32, 6 years younger than the Australian national average. More than 80% of the residents were born in Australia, while the remaining per cent were born overseas in England, Scotland, Ireland, New Zealand and Germany. The most common religious group is Catholic, followed by Anglican.
Different Aboriginal Australians occupied portions of Camden; the southern highland was inhabited by the Gandangara tribe, the northern region on the Nepean River by the Muringong tribe, and the eastern part by the Tharawal tribe. The Gandangara people called the land Benkennie, meaning ‘dry land’. In 1795, European explorers arrived and named it Cowpastures due to their discovery of the previously missing herd of cattle. In 1805, then-governor Philip Gidley King reluctantly ordered a surveyor to measure 2000 hectares for John Macarthur, a British army officer who had been promised land by Lord Camden, Secretary of State for War and the Colonies. To honour his sponsor, Macarthur named his property Camden Park.
Camden is a suburb that has wider roads compared to the neighbouring towns. The suburb has a semi-rural, old-fashioned atmosphere perfect for people looking for a very different life from city life. It is far enough from the city centre for a peaceful Sunday morning with your family. Some statistics of Camden include

The town’s attractions will make your visit memorable, whether travelling alone or with your friends and loved ones. There is no other place to visit if you want to be introduced to a town except its museum, so go first to Camden Museum to glimpse this fascinating town's history and culture. The museum houses artworks and historical artefacts that show visitors what life in Camden was like in the past.
Macarthur Park is a vast open space with scenic views and a serene atmosphere. It is a perfect park for a date, a weekend hangout with family and friends and an exercise area. John Macarthur’s granddaughter, Elizabeth Macarthur-Onslow, gifted the site to the people of Camden in 1905. A year after, the area was opened to the public.
If you want to be one with nature, Camden Town Farm can give you that. The farm has a lake and a well-maintained grassy area where people gather to wait for the golden hour and take pictures with their families. You can also see giant balloons floating in the air.
