Bell is a small rural and residential village located in the Blue Mountains region of New South Wales, Australia. The town is approximately 40 square kilometres and lies in the northwestern part of Blue Mountains City. According to the census conducted by the Australian Bureau of Statistics in 2016, only 51 people live in the town, with a percentage of 51.2% males and 48.8% females. More than 90% of the residents are homeowners with children. The most practised religion is Christianity, followed by Buddhism. Most people rely on farming as their livelihood.
Bell was named after Archibald Bell, Jr., an English-born Australian explorer and politician who was the first to map the route over the Blue Mountains through Richmond. In 1823, the 19-year-old Bell crossed the Blue Mountains on a route known as the Bells Line of Road. Bell was able to explore the whole area with the help of Dharug companions Emery and Cogy, who were familiar with the route. In 1875, a railway station was built for Mount Wilson, a village about 14 kilometres from Bell.
Bell is known as a peaceful rural residential area that provides shelter for small families. Its serene vibe is perfect for retired people who want to spend their lives away from urban life. You can stay at this tiny settlement for an extended period without travelling to buy your needs if you have a garden in your backyard. Some statistics of Bell include
Although considered a small area, Bell has something for everyone that you may not see in its neighbouring suburbs. It has spots worth visiting and would make you realise that the town is a hidden gem. For example, The Lost City is one of the must-see wonders of the Blue Mountains. It is challenging to locate, and as such, is a very accurately named destination. The so-called city was created by sheets of ironstone sandwiched between sandstone layers. The rock formations look like a series of Asian pagodas. Until now, no one knows where the iron came from or how to formations happened.
Considered the primary attraction in the area, Mount Wilson is a majestic place, particularly during spring and autumn. Its beautiful gardens maintain its 19th-century British colonialism vibe. The site is abundant with eucalypts and European trees and has a variety of colours of leaves, making it a radiant tourist attraction. Walk through its village and see how different it is from most Australian spots.
The Mount Banks Road cycle route, a 5-kilometre-long one-way trail, is worth a try for cyclists. It is a breathtaking cycling route offering incredible views, wilderness and diverse vegetation, making the Blue Mountains National Park famous. Walkers and families who love day trip travel can also enjoy the route. Other spots you can visit include
