The area had eucalypts, blackbutts and turpentines that covered mangroves, swamp oaks, mahoganies, and most of the higher ground. Wangal people’s main diet was fish, so they spent most of their time living near the shores of the Parramatta River and used canoes to catch fish. The land near where they lived had fruits, berries and vegetables, and possums and kangaroos, which they killed for food and skins. In 1788, British ships arrived on the land, which greatly affected the lifestyle of the Wangan people.
