Robertson is a town in the Southern Highlands of New South Wales, Australia, on the edge of the Illawarra escarpment, an elevated plateau approximately 35 kilometres from the coast. According to the 2021 census, it has more than 2,000 residents, and the average age of residents is 41, 3 years older than the Australian national average age. The population comprised 51.4% females and 48.6% males, 59% married and 24% single, while the rest were divorced or separated. More than 80% of the population was born in Australia, much higher than the national average of 67%. The most common religious group is Anglican, followed by Catholic.
Robertson is named after Sir John Robertson, an Australian politician and 5-time former Premier of New South Wales. Robertson was best known for his 1861 Land Act, which gave way to the establishment of the land. The town was once known for cheese production, evidenced by an old factory that stands there today, which has been turned into a commercial establishment. There is also an old butter factory in the town's western part. The whole city was previously surrounded by rainforest, most of which has been cleared for farming. Before being named after Robertson, the city was called Yarrawa Bush, and the town locals called the area Robbo.
Today, Robertson is known for its high yearly rainfall and potato production. The town is clean and peaceful, almost a hundred kilometres from the Sydney central business district. The small town has everything you need including shopping centres and other shops where you can get your needs. Some statistics of Robertson include
Robertson has many tourist attractions within the town and its neighbouring cities like Burrawang. It is an excellent place to visit to enjoy your weekend and have some fresh air. For example, Robertson Hotel is a popular hotel in the town as a wedding venue. It has many play equipment such as a 9-hole golf course, tennis courts, croquet, lawn bowls and billiards. It also offers fish hunting and horseback riding and has a mechanic who looks after visitors’ cars throughout their stay.
For people looking for adventure, Illawarra Fly Treetop Adventures could give you what you want. Opened on March 2008, this tourist attraction is home to Australia’s highest zipline. The Treetop Walk will enable you to see the breathtaking views of the Illawarra escarpment while walking through a steel walkway surrounded by various native plants and species.
The Big Potato is one of the main attractions of the town. The 10-metre long and 4-metre wide Sebago potato-inspired structure was built by a local potato grower named Jim Mauger in 1977. Originally planned as a Potato Information Centre, the locals worked together to turn the surrounding land into a park. Other tourist attractions include
