Labrador is a suburb in the city of Gold Coast, Queensland. This coastal suburb provides a view of the Gold Coast Broadwater to the east. It also overlooks the Southport on the southern border and has a land area of 5.7 km². The population in Labrador was 15,391 at the 2006 census. It grew to 16,402 at the 2011 census and grew even higher to 18,261 according to the 2016 census. Early settlers spoke of two local groups of people, which were the Yugambeh and Kombumerri Aboriginals.
Labrador has been more like a traditional country for many families. This is specifically due to the large presence of mud crabs, oysters, waterfowl, and shellfish in the area. 57.2% of the population of Labrador were born in Australia. The name Labrador was given to the area by Robert Muir in the late 19th century. He is believed to have named it after the local fishery in north-eastern Canada.
