East Brisbane is located in the inner suburb of Brisbane City in Queensland, Australia. Based on the 2016 census data, the community has a residential population of 5,934 people. This part of Queensland experienced a boom in the 1880s with the development of the Brisbane property market. One of the major housing projects developed was Heathfield Estate which was unveiled in 1886. The development of these projects led to an influx of permanent residents to the area.
The 1880s also saw major development in social Infrastructure with the setting up of East Brisbane State School in July 1899. In 1881, about 232 blocks of land were advertised for sale by Longlands Estate and auctioned by David Love, an auctioneer in 1881. Today, the Estate covers Fisher, East Brisbane, Norman Streets, and Longlands. Then in November 1886, another set of land blocks were auctioned by Arthur Martin & Co in Woolloongabba. The following year, Brisbane East School was commissioned on July 10, 1889.
Perhaps the largest land sale came at the close of the century in 1889 when about 1289 allotments were advertized and auctioned by Dansie & Chandler on July 13, 1889. These sales completely transformed East Brisbane’s landscape and attracted human activity and settlement to the area.
