Crows Nest was established in the year 1876. It was supposedly named after Jimmy Crow, who lived in a large hollow tree. Jimmy Crow gave directions to the first European settlers of this suburb. Its first Post office opened 2 years later, on July 1878. The very first railway connecting Crows Nest to Toowoomba was completed in 1886.
Crows Nest became an administrative centre in the year 1913, and the Shire of Crows Nest was formed. The Shire of Crows Nest was, however, merged into the Toowoomba local government area in 2008.
