Eight Mile Plains is a southern suburb on the fringes of Brisbane, Queensland, with a population of over 15,000 residents. The area was formerly the ancestral home of aboriginal tribes whose identity remains disputed. Some sources claim that the Chelsea who spoke the Turrbal language occupied the area, while others say it was the Yerongpan clan of Oxley Creek who lived in the land all the way to Ipswich. Then there is another source that claims that the Yagarabal clan occupied the area all the way throughout Logan River to Moggil Creek. 

They traveled along a trail that later became the Logan Road which crisscrossed many creeks, including Bulimba watercourse and Mimosa Creek. The name, Eight Mile Plains, was given to the area due to its topography and its 8 Mile distance to one Mile Swamp, which is now called Woolloongabba. 

Development of the area commenced with the sale of over 7,000 acres in 1861, close to Coppers Plains. Today, Cooper's Plains is now an Agricultural Reserve. By 1864, another 5000 acres, including the Eight Mile Plains Agricultural Reserve red established, which was a conglomeration of different suburbs like

In the 2016 census, Eight Mile Plains had a population of 15,322 people. == Geography == Eight Mile Plains is 14.38 kilometres (8.94 mi) south-southeast of the Brisbane central business district. Bulimba Creek forms the northern and western boundary of the suburb. Before white settlement the area was home to a diverse range of flora and fauna. There are also areas of remnant bushland in the suburb and a small number of market gardens. The Brisbane Technology Park is an initiative of the Queensland Government developed to provide a catalytic environment for established and emerging knowledge-intensive, technology-based companies. == History == The name of the Aboriginal clan formerly occupying this area is uncertain.
