Eight Mile Plains is a southern suburb on the fringes of Brisbane, Queensland, with a population of over 15,000 residents. The area was formerly the ancestral home of aboriginal tribes whose identity remains disputed. Some sources claim that the Chelsea who spoke the Turrbal language occupied the area, while others say it was the Yerongpan clan of Oxley Creek who lived in the land all the way to Ipswich. Then there is another source that claims that the Yagarabal clan occupied the area all the way throughout Logan River to Moggil Creek.
They traveled along a trail that later became the Logan Road which crisscrossed many creeks, including Bulimba watercourse and Mimosa Creek. The name, Eight Mile Plains, was given to the area due to its topography and its 8 Mile distance to one Mile Swamp, which is now called Woolloongabba.
