Torquay Property Conveyancing Market Update

Torquay is a 34.5 square kilometer area in Victoria that is home to some of the best seaside resorts. Long considered a hospitality site, Torquay is the residence of many of Victoria’s middle and upper-class citizens. This suburb has 3 parks and a small residential population of more than 13,000 people. In the last five years, Torquay has experienced a residential growth of more than 30%, which has, in turn, fueled the demand for real estate in the area.

Currently, the demand for houses, units, and apartments are at an all-time high as the restrictions placed by the authorities to stem the tide of the pandemic are eased. Many of Toquay’s adult working population are generally professionals. Based on available statistics, out of 73.4% of homes in the area are occupied by their owners.

Torquay also has a relatively young demography, with many households been young and middle-aged couples. The predominant age group is children between the ages of 0-9 years. These statistics alone best explains why family housing units are in high demand as couples look for homes that are family-friendly.

In terms of investment returns, sellers and property renters are doing quite well. The stats show that you stand to earn good returns from your investment as an investor should you decide to buy or develop properties here. Here are some important investment stats you should know about.

  • The median price for homes increased over the last three years
  • The average weekly rental income is $560 marking a 2.63% increase
  • Torquay is the 311th  best yielding suburb in Victoria

Facts About Torquay Conveyancing Service Area

Torquay is a resort suburb on close to the Bass Strait in Victoria, Australia. The suburb is about 21 km south of the Geelong and provides access to Great Ocean Road. On the west of Torquay is Spring Creek, where you will find Zeally Bay and Point Danger. Torquay has a population of over 13,000 people, while most of the people who frequent the area are tourists and pleasure seekers.

Before a British settlement was established here, it used to be the home of the Wathaurong tribe. After the British settled in the greater Victoria area, tourists began to frequent the area from the 1860s in search of pleasure as they were drawn to the beauty of the sea. The tourist site was initially called Spring Creek, but in 1882, it was renamed, Puebla. Then, in 1871, James Follet settled in the area, and this was when the name Spring Creek changed to Torquay finally. The Torquay name was derived from the seaside town of Devon in England and was suggested by James Follet.

As many more settlers migrated to the area, so did development. The first Post Office was opened in 1894, then on April 3rd, 1908, a Spring Creek bridge was built to connect the neighboring town of Anglesea.

In recent times, development has completely transformed the area, which caused conflict between long-term residents and investors, with the former blaming the latter for distorting the natural features of the suburb. Today, Torquay is one of the best tourist locations in Victoria and attracts thousands of visitors every year. Some of the localities around Torquay include

  • Bellbrae
  • Conewarre
  • Freshwater Creek
  • Bass Strait
  • Jan Juc
  • Mount Duneed

About Torquay, VIC

Torquay ( tor-KEE) is a seaside town in Devon, England, part of the unitary authority area of Torbay. It lies 18 miles (29 km) south of the county town of Exeter and 28 miles (45 km) east-north-east of Plymouth, on the north of Tor Bay, adjoining the neighbouring town of Paignton on the west of the bay and across from the fishing port of Brixham. The town's economy, like Brixham's, was initially based upon fishing and agriculture, but in the early 19th century it began to develop into a fashionable seaside resort. Later, as the town's fame spread, it was popular with Victorian society. Renowned for its mild climate, the town earned the nickname the English Riviera. The writer Agatha Christie was born in the town and lived at Ashfield in Torquay during her early years. There is an "Agatha Christie Mile", a tour with plaques dedicated to her life and work. The poet Elizabeth Barrett Browning lived in the town from 1837 to 1841 on the recommendation of her doctor in an attempt to cure her of a disease which is thought likely to have been tuberculosis. Her former home now forms part of the Regina Hotel in Vaughan Parade. == Toponymy == Torquay's name originates in its being the quay of the ancient village of Torre. In turn, Torre takes its name from the tor, the extensively quarried remains of which can be seen by the town's Lymington Road.
