Bannockburn is a southern town near Geelong, Victoria, Australia, located within the local government area of the Golden Plains Shire. Bannockburn was founded in the early 1850s and was initially called Leigh Road. The township’s name was believed to be derived from the 14th-century battle area in Scotland. It eventually became a coaching stop between the 1850s and 1860s, when the central path to the Ballarat goldfields was through the Geelong port. The town was named Leigh Road Railway Station in May 1863, Leigh Road in 1873, Wabdallah in 1875 and Bannockburn in 1892. It houses notable Victorian colonial buildings.
