Greensborough is a suburb that’s 17km to the northeast of the Central Business District of Melbourne. The suburb is situated in the city of Shire of Nillumbik and Banyule City, which are different local government areas. The current population is above 20,000 and growing.

The land had boundaries that included Macorna Street to the West, Grimshaw to the South, Plenty River to the East, and Gold Street to the North. Subsequently, after holding onto the land for some years, Henry Smythe sold the land for 1600 pounds to Edward Bernard Green in 1841, from whom the area derived its current name.
By 1850, Greensborough was already developing at a rapid pace with the set up of a township. Subsequently, a Post Office was opened on July 17, 1858. Before then, Charteris Lieutenant called Robert Whatmough had built an orchard. Robert also published a book on Botany not too long after arriving in Australia. Today, Greensborough is still home to different tree species growing along the Plenty River Trail.
