What is a cost agreement and cost disclosure?

A cost agreement is a service agreement between you and your lawyer for the service that your lawyer is providing you. It should detail in writing the charges that your lawyer will apply for their service. If a fixed fee is offered, it will contain the fixed fee in dollar value and the scope of work that is involved for that fee.

A cost disclosure is a document required to be provided to clients to inform them of their rights as protected by the law. If you have not received the cost disclosure, then you will not be required to make any payment to your lawyers until it is assessed by a Costs Assessor.
